She later went on to win the state championship and the Under-21 Championship with her local team, the Braddock Road Bluebelles. She played college soccer at William and Mary University and was a All-American. Ellis' playing days were in her twenties. However, she earned recognition as a coach.
Ellis has extensive sports management experience, in addition to her many years of coaching. Ellis has held various leadership positions, including the role of Development Director at the United States Soccer Federation. She also served as an assistant coach for the U.S. women's national team and coached women's youth teams. In 2012, Ellis was named interim head coach of the senior women's national team. She was an interim coach for 2 matches in 2014 and holds a USSF Pro coaching certificate.
