Rose Lavelle, USWNT Matchfielder of the Year

Lavelle, a star of the game with a lot of talent, has a unique vision for the ball. She made her senior international debut against England in 2017, winning the player-of-the-match award. Lavelle is a Cincinnati-born midfielder

Rose Lavelle is a Cincinnati-based player of soccer. She started playing soccer as a child in the YMCA youth coed leagues. She didn't celebrate or smile when she scored her first goal. Instead, she kept her cool and continued playing. She went on to play soccer for several clubs in the area, including Cincinnati United Premier Soccer Club. She also played college football at the University of Wisconsin.

Lavelle grew into a Cincinnati native and attended Mount Notre Dame High School. Later she received a scholarship at the University of Wisconsin. She currently plays in the NWSL for the Washington Spirit. Lavelle credits Cincinnati Soccer trainer Neil Bradford for helping her discover her love of soccer.

Lavelle is a former representative of the United States women’s National Team at both the youth and senior levels. In November 2015, she was named the top midfielder in the Big Ten. Later, she was awarded the NSCAA's first-team honor all-American. Lavelle also played in the USL W-League 2014 for the Dayton Dutch Lions, as well as the Seattle Sounders Womens in W-League 2015. Lavelle joined Washington Spirit after graduating college. For the 2016 Women's Premier Soccer League season, she returned to Dayton.


She played for Wisconsin

Rose Lavelle received the Big Ten Midfielder-of-the Year award in December 2015. She was also selected to U.S. Women's National Team. Unfortunately, she didn't make the roster for game day. Her frustration grew from that point. She felt like she wasn’t making the necessary progress and wasn’t ready for the rigors that came with playing for the national team. Through a meeting she had with Coach Wilkins, she was finally able to make progress.

Rose Lavelle plays soccer for the Badgers but is also an active participant in the university's community services programs. She is a key participant in Wish Upon a Badger Experience. She has also been the brand ambassador for Yuengling's premium light beer FLIGHT.

She has been an integral member of the U.S. Women's National Team

Rose Lavelle hails from Cincinnati, Ohio. She became a key member of the U.S. Women's National Team when she was just 15 years old. She was recently in Czech Republic for the SheBelieves Cup. Although the USWNT lost the game, they beat their opponents 18-6. Rose Lavelle received the Budweiser Woman Award for the Match.

Lavelle was hurt in a friendly against Australia in June 2017. She suffered a hamstring injury, but she returned to the USWNT for the final game. She displayed great creativity throughout the tournament and was highly praised by her teammates and coaches as a breakout performer.

Lavelle has participated in the World Cup for America. She played against Thailand in her World Cup debut, but she sat out against Chile. She returned to the United States against Sweden and helped them press their attacks.
