He has previously been an assistant coach with the Seattle Storm. Another coach with WNBA experience is Katie Smith, who was the head coach of the New York Liberty in 2018-19 and is currently an assistant coach for the Minnesota Lynx. Chatman previously coached the Indiana Fever basketball team before joining the Dallas Wings.

This year, Smith will be inducted into the WNBA Hall of Fame alongside Tina Thompson. Smith is one of the most prolific scorers in the league's history.
