The franchise was established before the 2006 season. It was originally known as the Chicago Mercury. The Chicago Sky now has a greater following.

Drafts by the WNBA
The Chicago Sky were largely silent during the most recent WNBA drafts, but local players were taken as high as the first round. The Dallas Wings selected Veronica Burton (Norwegian guard) as the seventh overall pick. She averaged 17.8 points per game, 5.5 boards, 6.4 rebounds, four assists and four steals last season. In fact, she reached double figures in Big Ten tournament. The Phoenix Mercury also drafted Maya Dodson from Notre Dame as a forward.
Trades
The Sky have made a few moves to strengthen their roster in this offseason. They made several trades to acquire draft picks and traded away players. They traded Alaina Coles to Minnesota, and acquired Kaitlin Lou Samuelson and Astou Ndour from Dallas. They also traded their 16th pick from the 2021 Draft, as well as a second-rounder in 2022.

The Chicago Sky is a professional NBA team located in the Midwest United States. Magellan has been retained as the uniform sponsor of the Chicago Sky. Home games are broadcasted by WCIU-TV, WMEU-CD and WMEU. Some games are televised on ESPN and NBA TV.
Game broadcasts
The Chicago Sky have announced their game broadcast schedule for the 2021 season. The team will broadcast five regular-season games on CW26. Lisa Byington, color analysis by Meghan McKeown and play-by–play from Lisa Byington are some of the highlights. Additionally, five games will air on My Michiana in South Bend, Indiana.

Fan base
The Chicago Sky are proud to have a large fan base who celebrate the team's achievements and work together to make Chicago a better place. Thousands of Sky fans turned up to the championship parade when the team won the 2015 WNBA title. They shut down downtown streets and took over Chicago Park. This was a wonderful way to foster community spirit and was a heartwarming community celebration.
